HSV after penalty thriller in the cup round of 16

Hamburger SV has reached the round of 16 in the DFB Cup. The second division Krösus won 4-3 on penalties against the lower-class team Arminia Bielefeld.

After 90 minutes and extra time the score was 1:1 (1:0). Matheo Raab saved the decisive penalty against Marius Wörl.

Nicklas Shipnoski (11th) scored early for Arminia, who had knocked Bundesliga club VfL Bochum out of the competition in the first round. But HSV equalized through Joker Bakery Jatta (77th) and reached extra time. This started ten minutes late due to a medical emergency in the stands.

In the duel between the two summer relegation losers, Bielefeld put up a courageous defensive battle after the opening goal. The guests from Hamburg kept running, creating chance after chance – but Bielefeld’s goalkeeper Jonas Kersken kept his box clean for a long time.

Only when HSV coach Tim Walter brought in his initially spared offensive forces Robert Glatzel and Jatta in the final phase did the guests break through the bulwark. Jatta scored with a header two minutes after coming on. In the final phase, both teams exchanged blows with opportunities on both sides.
