A hotel in Witteveen and an apartment complex in Assen have won the Drenthe architecture prize. That happened this afternoon, during the Drenthe Day of Architecture in Meppel.
The prize was created by the organization Architecturepunt Drenthe and is awarded every two years to ‘the most successful projects in Drenthe in the field of architecture, urban design and landscape’.
A professional jury prize and a public prize was awarded. This year’s winner of the jury prize is the apartment building complex ‘Four in a row’ in Assen, designed by architectural firm ‘De Door In Huis’. It is a construction project of Actium Wonen. On the site of four outdated portico apartments on the Thorbeckelaan, four modern residential blocks have been placed with eighty rental apartments.
The jury believes that the complex ‘can be characterized by a fine modesty’. She praises ‘the beautiful details in the brickwork’ and ‘the pronounced balconies that prevent the apartment building complex from getting the chance to get boring’.
