With a victory against VfL Bochum, the Bremen want to improve their chances in the fight for the European Cup. Coach Ole Werner relies on “a wide breast”.

Werder is currently greeting from the top – At least in the form table of the past five games. After the last three victories in a series, the Bremen are involved in the fight for the qualification for the European Cup. Werder now wants to pack this opportunity to create the return to the international stage after 15 years. So that this can be achieved, however, three points in the home game against the penultimate Bochum are mandatory.

Everything is possible. We go into the last games with a wide chest because we have developed a good starting position.

Werner sees himself confirmed by the development

In the meantime, the Bremen distance to the 6th place is only three points left. The fans already dream of being able to travel through Europe with their club in the coming season. “First round Bucharest, second round of Rome, in Copenhagen the phone is crazy. Maybe to Rotterdam. Maybe to Milan. Maybe to Tenerife, a week of sandy beach” says in a song that the followers of many clubs like to start when the European Cup is within reach.

Werner does not want to be infected by the enthusiasm. “I perceive how it is fundamentally with the euphoria. I know that things are going very quickly here. Three weeks ago it felt like the opposite,” he explained. Nevertheless, it is “a good feeling if you go well with the approach to stay calm and not let yourself go, quite well”. The current run after before disappointing weeks is “a new confirmation for this”.

Werder’s remaining program appears feasible

Despite the failures of Milos Veljkovic (muscular problems) and Derrick Köhn (ankle injury), Werner is satisfied with the personnel situation. In the past few weeks he had “almost fully drawn from the full”. Werder also “had the game happiness” on his side again, said the coach. “This caused us to score well.”

So it should of course continue in the coming weeks so that on May 17th, the day of the 34th match day, celebrations can be celebrated. The remaining program could be harder: After the game against Bochum, the Bremeners will still meet FC St. Pauli (April 27, 5:30 p.m.), Union Berlin (May 3, 3:30 p.m.), RB Leipzig (May 10, 3:30 p.m.) and 1. FC Heidenheim (May 17, 3:30 p.m.). As an advantage, however, Werner does not want to do this. “We always have to play the absolute maximum,” he is certain.
