The Screenwriters Guild of America announces that it will end its strike. According to the union, the union leaders voted unanimously to end the strike.

Later, union members will vote on whether to approve a three-year contract that would provide wage increases and protect workers as the use of artificial intelligence becomes more common in television and film productions. Voting will take place on October 2 and 9.

The work stoppage is scheduled to end on Wednesday, September 27 at midnight local time.

– This gives the screenwriters the opportunity to return to work during the ratification process, but does not affect the membership’s right to make the final decision on accepting the contract, the union announces in his statement.

The screenwriters’ union already promised in its statement published on Monday, September 27, that the agreement in question is quite peculiar.

– We can proudly state that this agreement is exceptional, as it has significant benefits and protects screenwriters in all sectors of the membership, the union said.

The strike managed to last five months. by an economist at the Milken Institute by Kevin Klowden according to the strike has cost the US economy about 5 billion dollars, i.e. about 4.7 billion euros. The strike halted the production of most of the series, such as The Last of Us, Emily in Paris, The Mandalorian and Stranger Things.

Hollywood is still not fully back to normal, as the actors’ union is still on strike. The actors’ union started its strike in the summer right after the screenwriters. Like screenwriters, the actors’ union wants to get protection for employees as the use of artificial intelligence becomes more common. In addition, the union demands to be able to improve working conditions, health and pension benefits, and raise wages.
