Heidi Klum demands more flexibility from fashion designers

TV presenter Heidi Klum (48) calls for more flexibility from fashion designers. It was difficult to find designers for the new season of their talent show “Germany’s Next Top Model”. “A lot of well-known designers have canceled us,” she said in an interview with her broadcaster ProSieben on Tuesday.

The reason is that in its 17th season, the model show is focusing more on diversity than before. According to Klum, the candidates are between 18 and 68 years old, between 1.54 and 1.95 meters tall, and wear sizes between 30 and 54. Many designers are not willing to take part. “Why don’t the big fashion labels just go with it?” asked Klum. “It’s your job to dress people, and size shouldn’t matter.”

The first episode of the new season starts this Thursday at 8:15 p.m. on ProSieben. Klum announced a drastic innovation: Because women over 60 are also there, the presenter no longer wants to call her candidates “girls” after 16 years, but models. After the season had to be shot mainly in Germany last year due to the Corona crisis, it should go back to Los Angeles this year.

So far, however, one innovation has been rather mixed: Klum’s appearance as a singer. She sings the title song for the new season together with the US musician Snoop Dogg (50, “Drop It Like It’s Hot”). Klum’s husband, Tokio Hotel guitarist Tom Kaulitz, produced it. So far, the reactions to this have not only been positive. (dpa)
