Hansi Flick and Oliver Bierhoff make a “nice sign”

National coach Hansi Flick and DFB director Oliver Bierhoff paid a visit to the German footballers at the start of the European Championship year.

Before the DFB women left for the four-country tournament in England (17th to 23rd February) on Tuesday, a brief exchange took place over lunch at the team hotel in Frankfurt.

“Not only do we want to go back to the top of the world, women also want to go back to the top of the world,” said Flick, such “togetherness” is a “good sign”.

With a view to the women’s European Championships in England in the summer and the men’s World Cup in Qatar in the winter, Bierhoff emphasized: “Of course it’s a very important year for both teams.”

National coach Martina Voss-Tecklenburg used the first meeting with her colleague Flick to chat, but also for technical discussions: “It’s just a nice sign that both have taken the time and are showing great interest.”

According to Hansi Flick, corona worries are also an opportunity

Flick can relate to the major personnel concerns of his colleague, who is currently missing 14 players due to Corona, injuries or illness: “You just have to improvise.” At the same time, it is always a chance “for new players to show themselves”.

On Thursday (3:30 p.m.), the DFB women start against their European Championship group opponents Spain in the top-class “Arnold Clark Cup”.

On Sunday (9:15 p.m./both sportschau.de) they will face Olympic champions Canada, before hosting England at the end on Wednesday (8:30 p.m./zdf.de). Matches will be played in Middlesbrough, Norwich and Wolverhampton.
