For TSV Hannover-Burgdorf, the handball year 2025 ended with a great disappointment. The Lower Saxony team couldn’t get past a 26:26 (12:14) draw in the Bundesliga duel with GWD Minden on Saturday evening.

The “Recken” led with three goals until the final phase of the game and had a double chance in possession of the ball in the last minute to make it 27:25. Instead, coach Christian Prokop’s team conceded the equalizer eight seconds before the end. The guests, who were threatened with relegation, then celebrated the point win with exuberance, while the TSV protégés slipped away from the table in frustration.

“Recken” give up the four-goal lead

The 9,900 spectators in the sold-out multi-purpose hall on the Expo site witnessed a game that initially went as expected. When Leif Tissier scored for the “Recken” in the 18th minute to make it 10:6, the Lower Saxony team seemed to be well on their way to making a small preliminary decision before the break. What followed, however, caused great astonishment and quite a bit of horror among many TSV fans. Because suddenly the Hanoverians were completely beside themselves – both in defense and in attack.

Minden was able to equalize with a 4-0 run and take a two-goal lead by halftime. In the same twelve-minute period, the home team only managed to get the ball into the net twice.

Hanover with a successful comeback

Even after the break, there were initially some signs of a guest success. GWD was able to score four goals (17:13/35th) and continued to make a very stable impression. The newcomer also had an outstanding goalkeeper between the posts in former “Recken” keeper Malte Semisch.

But even the 2.08 meter giant from Minden couldn’t hold everything. And because the players in front no longer defended as consistently as before as the game went on and Hannover found better solutions in positional attack at the same time, the encounter took another turn. TSV initially equalized at 19:19 (45th) and soon thereafter gained three goals (24:21/53rd).

Kranzmann scores for Minden eight seconds before the end

The decision? Not at all! Because Hannover failed in the final phase due to their nerves and Semisch, the guests were able to come close again and actually equalize. Eight seconds before the end, Florian Kranzmann scored from the left wing position to make it 26:26. Tissier was then able to finish again on the other side, but failed due to the attentive Semisch.
