For the past three years, Estonian Artti Aigro has been an integral part of the Norwegian ski jumping training group. After he announced the end of his collaboration with the association a few weeks ago, it is now clear what will happen to the top ski jumper from the Baltics in the new World Cup winter.
As Artti Aigro announced on “usaskijumping.com”, he will train with the US national team in the future. Accordingly, Estonia’s best ski jumper and the association have entered into a partnership that is scheduled to run until the 2030 Winter Olympics. Part of the agreement is that the 26-year-old will take part in a number of training sessions in Europe and overseas with the US team.
“I think this is a great opportunity for both Artti and for American ski jumping,” says Tore Sneli, the Norwegian coach of the US team, about the collaboration: “His presence will enrich his daily training and I am very happy to support his further development in the next phase of his career.”
Ski jumping: Cooperation with Norway “not the right way”
A joy that is mutual. “I’m really looking forward to working with the Americans. I’ve known this team for several years now and I believe that the system they work in is paying off. I would like to thank everyone who contributed to this project,” explained the national series champion and 23rd in the overall World Cup last season.
His collaboration with the Norwegians recently came to an end after three years. “After the so-called Trondheim scandal, I couldn’t find common ground with the new coaches and realized that this wasn’t the right path,” he said, looking back on his time with the world-class team. After the end, he took the initiative and auditioned in the USA.
“I contacted the US national team because I have known the team for years. I found great support and willingness to help. I am convinced that no one in Norway will disapprove of my decision and our relationship will remain good,” emphasized Aigro in an interview with “sport.err.ee”.
