As of: 07/01/2023 7:31 p.m

The German U21 handball players have reached the final at the World Cup.

Coach Martin Heuberger’s team won the semi-final against Serbia on Saturday (July 1st, 2023) in Berlin’s Max-Schmeling-Halle by 40:30 (17:15).

Germany was in the lead for almost the entire game. After the break, when the team went into a 17:15 lead, Heuberger’s team pulled away and never left any doubt about the name of the winner. On average, four out of five shots landed in the Serbs’ goal.

Captain Renars Uscins, who plays for TSV Hannover-Burgdorf in the Bundesliga, was the top scorer with nine goals. Florian Kranzmann scored eight times.

Lasse Ludwig, who surprisingly stood in goal instead of David Späth, who was outstanding in the quarterfinals against Denmark, showed a strong performance, especially in the first half.

Hungary wins easily against Iceland

In the final, the selection of the German Handball Association (DHB) meets Hungary, which prevailed in the other semi-final after a convincing performance with 37:30 against Iceland.

Heuberger was already world champion in 2009 and 2011 with the oldest German youth team.
