Handball player Tim Bottinga provisionally suspended by Aalsmeer for a fight

Tim Bottinga will not be playing for Aalsmeer for the time being. His handball club is keeping him aside for the time being because of his part in last week’s massive fight in the home game against Visé.

That game in the BENE-League was stopped at 6-9 as a result of that fight. After the goalkeeper of the Belgians had received the ball against the head after a whistle signal, things went wrong. Yves Vancosen headbutt Aalsmeer’s Samir Benghanem, then Bottinga punched Vancosen in the face. Both got the red card.

The disciplinary committee is investigating the case, but Aalsmeer is not waiting for that decision and has suspended Bottinga for an indefinite period. Shortly after the fight, chairman Mike van der Laarse told NH Radio that Bottinga was sorry. Van der Laarse understands that he stood up for his teammate. “But we never approve of him going in like that.”

In the Belgian newspaper La Dernière, Visé said that it is strange that the name of Samir Benghanem is missing from the referees’ report. According to Visé, Vancosen also regrets giving the headbutt, but the Belgians believe that the referees failed to write down the instigator of the fight.

Vancosen did come into action this weekend in the won game against Atomix (40-28). Aalsmeer beat Bevo (29-32) on Saturday evening.
