Handball EM unpredictable due to Corona

The German national handball player Julius Kühn is going to the EM in Slovakia and Hungary (January 13th to 30th) with concerns about corona.

“It really is the case that it can hit anyone. From one day to the next, the tournament can be over for any of us,” said the backcourt player from MT Melsungen to the newspapers of the Funke media group.

The selection of the German Handball Federation (DHB) starts on Friday (6:00 p.m. / ARD) against Belarus in the EM and also meets Austria (January 16) and Poland (January 18) in the preliminary round. The first two teams qualify for the main round.

The German team had to build “new pillars”, said Kühn. “The fact is that responsibility now has to be broadened and other players have to face new tasks – and you grow into them in the tournament.”

It would be “presumptuous” to claim that Germany is at eye level with the world’s best: “But that is also what has always distinguished us, including in 2016, when we became European champions with this unity.”
