Bratislava (dpa) – The German Handball Federation is calling for a faster evaluation of the corona tests at the European Championship.

“The laboratories are not working at the highest speed,” complained DHB sports director Axel Kromer. “We would like it to go faster and have also discussed this with the EHF.”

After the positive corona case with backcourt player Julius Kühn, who is in quarantine in the German preliminary round venue in Bratislava, the entire DHB entourage completed a PCR test on Sunday. According to Kromer, the results were not available by Monday morning.

In general, the German team does not deal too intensively with the pandemic and its effects on the tournament in Hungary and Slovakia. “We don’t look so much at the Corona situation, but more at sport. We know that we are in a bubble and that we follow the hygiene rules,” said Kromer.

Right winger Timo Kastening emphasized: “I haven’t felt like talking about this topic for a long time. If you’re positive, then you’re positive. Then you can only hope for a mild course, I wish that to everyone.” There is always a risk of infection when you decide to take part in a major tournament. “You can’t reduce the contacts to zero,” said Kastening.
