Handball, Bundesliga 20th matchday: Magdeburg on course for the title, Flensburg stays on top – Bundesliga – handball

Magdeburg convinced with a strong team performance. Omar Ingi Magnusson and Lukas Mertens each contributed five goals to the deserved success.

MT Melsungen continues to keep an eye on the international places. Coach Roberto Garcia Parrondo’s team convincingly beat HBW Balingen-Weilstetten by 28:21 (14:10). Melsungen now has 22:16 points and is close behind fifth-placed HSG Wetzlar (24:14).

RN lions show morale

Ex-champion Rhein-Neckar Löwen meanwhile avoided the fourth defeat in a row with morale. The Mannheimers came up against their direct competitor HC Erlangen to a 26:26 (13:12), after being behind shortly before the end.

The SG Flensburg-Handewitt won easily with 30:20 against Hannover-Burgdorf and with now 30:8 points on points temporarily drew level with the table second THW Kiel. The big rival still has Sunday’s game at Bergisches HC up his sleeve.

For Hannover-Burgdorf it was the first game after the EM break. The home game against HSV Hamburg scheduled for last Thursday had to be canceled due to Corona cases in the Hanover team.

Flensburg focused to the end

Flensburg made up for the promised 29:29 draw in Wetzlar against Hannover-Burgdorf, in which the North Germans carelessly gave up a comfortable lead in the final phase. After a narrow 13:12 lead at the break, Flensburg pulled away in the second half and remained focused until the end. The most successful Flensburg thrower was Emil Jakobsen with seven goals, one of which was a penalty. Ivan Martinovic was the best man for the guests with eight goals.
