Gust in a hurry to Olympic victory – Doll can hope for a medal – Biathlon – Olympics

Doll almost a minute slower than Bö

Even the German ski hunters could not keep up with the pace of the newly crowned Olympic champion. As in the individual, Benedikt Doll was the best. Just like Bö, Doll also had to do one lap, but was significantly slower on the track than the high-flyer and is eighth, 1:05.00 minutes behind in the pursuit race on Sunday (from 11.35 a.m. in the live stream at sportschau.de). At least on bronze they are only 26.1 behind – and so the clear message is: Attack on the podium.

“The tactical secret is to get up fast and survive at the top”, Doll joked after the race. The placement is good, but the missed standing shot rankled him: “The one standing mistake was annoying. Again, the first shot was pretty quick, pretty reckless.”, he got angry. The material wasn’t the best this time either. In the descent, Doll clearly lost.

Rees is one of the best at the shooting range

Roman Rees from SV Schauinsland achieved the sub-discipline shooting with a grade of 1. He was one of only four athletes who got through with ten direct hits. On the track, however, it was much more difficult and so in the end I was only 17th and 1:23.9 minutes behind Bö, who also had to run 150 meters more.

Nawrath – fresh legs but three penalties

Philipp Nawrath, who was only a spectator in the individual and with correspondingly fresh legs, was the second fastest from the German team at his Olympic premiere, but missed a top place with three tickets at the shooting range.

So it was only enough for the 28-year-old from Füssen to place 22. “From the feeling I was rather passive and not too fast, but of course with three penalties you don’t really get going anymore”, said Nawrath after the race.

Boldly off the roll at the shooting range

Johannes Kühn (Reit im Winkl) just can’t get along at the shooting range either. The sprint winner from Hochfilzen had four penalties and 600 extra meters to run.

Despite the sixth fastest run time in the entire field, a good placement was not possible. Kühn finished the sprint in 33rd place.

Many co-favorites make a mistake at the shooting range

The co-favorites Alexander Loginow (ROC/38./4 mistakes/+ 2:15.1 minutes) and Vetle Sjastaad Christiansen (Norway/20./3 mistakes/+ 1:38.0 minutes) also have an almost unsolvable task in front of their chest.

Lesser not nominated

Erik Lesser, who was disappointing in the individual with rank 67, was not selected. Now the veteran is hoping for a start in the season. David Zobel also had to watch.

However, Zobel only went along as a substitute. He is only used in the event of injuries or positive corona tests from his teammates.
