Berlin (AP) – National goalkeeper Almuth Schult (30) has criticized the German Football Association and accused the association of lack of transparency in the election of the president.
“Nobody officially knows which delegates are going there. Nobody knows how they are determined and elected. And that’s with the largest sports association in the world,” said Schult in the kicker podcast “FE: male view on football”: “I think so questionable. Even in the Federal Assembly, which elects the Federal President, you know that.”
Together with the “Football can do more” initiative, the goalkeeper of the Bundesliga side vfL Wolfsburg tried to propose a change in the statutes of the DFB that would have made dual leadership possible. With the initiative, she “spoke to several state associations, regional associations, the DFB and DFL presidium – and nobody thought that changing the statutes was good,” said Schult. “They said: ‘We don’t need a dual leadership’.” Therefore, the application was not passed on to the DFB Bundestag.
“It’s crazy: People act like they’re listening to us and that what we’re doing is great. But when you talk to people directly, it often comes back: you have to do 20 years of association work to understand how to do it and you must first earn the right to have a say,” said Schult. “It will be another 100 years before women have a chance to change the statutes of the DFB.”
Although she was assured “that two of our wishes will be discussed later in a structural committee. However, given her previous experience, Schult considers implementation to be questionable: “I’m really disappointed with it.”
