Girls at welfare level or not? “They’re faking it!”

The Meilandjes arouse suspicion in the Uithoorn neighborhood where they record their program Chateau Bijstand. Several local residents think they are fake and clicking at the juice channels.

Martien, Erica and Maxime Meiland are in the middle of filming Chateau Bijstand, for which their living budget is reduced to social assistance level for a month. After the revelation that their ‘assistance home’ in reality costs 1,750 euros per month – which a couple on welfare can never afford – clicking local residents are now appearing.

“They don’t sleep there!”

What do these local residents say to the juice channel juice channel† “Yeah they were here, but they have to be in that house for a month, only they left tonight. So I think they just come back every day and pretend they’re peeing here. I’m going to keep an eye on everything,” says one of them.

The fact that Juice Channel actually has contact with local residents is apparent from photos of the recordings it holds. In this way it is of course very difficult for the Meilandjes to cheat the root ball.

cheese stand

Another photo that Juice Channel got their hands on was taken from behind the counter of a cheese stall where the Meilandjes are doing their shopping at the time. “Martien and Erica went to the market yesterday for recordings. That may seem cheap, but on the market they all sell fresh products, which makes it more expensive.”

Did the Meilandjes buy with a social assistance budget? No, according to this source, presumably a saleswoman from the market stall. “Our source indicates that they bought no less than 30 euros worth of cheese at the cheese stall.”

This cheese stall is really ridiculously expensive, says another local resident. “Hahaha it is indeed a very expensive stall. If you are tight, you walk around it with a bend.”

Talpa denies

From the Talpa camp they deny that the Meilandjes are cheating, although the rumors have not escaped their notice either. Shownieuws expert Bart Ettekoven yesterday: “I spoke to some makers, because when such a series starts, there are always rumors of: they do some recordings and then they go back to that villa.”

And, is that right? No, calls Bart. “They have really assured me – I’ve heard it from several sides – that that really isn’t the case. They really just live in this house. There they sleep and live.”

Expensive home

And what does Bart think of that expensive house of 1,750 euros per month? “Now a lot of people say: ‘Someone on social assistance cannot afford that, so things are already going wrong there and they are already cheating there.’ But you can never really do it right in this case, because if they had really been in social housing, we would probably have had it all over us for a long time.”

Why? “Because then they would have said: ‘Now the Meilandjes are in there for a month, a family could also have been in that house.’ With that in mind, they’ve said, ‘We don’t want to occupy a social sector house for a month or two.’”

“It’s terrible!”

The Meilandjes could of course have moved into a real social rental home. After all, the immensely wealthy TV family has an exceptionally comfortable million-dollar villa, which they could have exchanged for a month. Significantly, apparently that wasn’t an option for anyone.

In the meantime, daughter Maxime complains in front of the Shownieuws camera: “It’s going well. We are of course with each other, so in that respect we get each other through. We have a lot of fun with each other, but yes, budget wise it is of course terrible. I really can’t say anything else. There is also no wine, or very cheap wine.”
