Get off Spotify with my music!

Neil Young wants his music to stop being heard on Spotify. The reason given by the singer is the spread of misinformation about the corona vaccination by the streaming giant. A particular thorn in his side is Joe Rogan and his podcast “Joe Rogan Experience”.

In an open letter to his management and his record label, the musician wrote: “I decided to make the call because Spotify is spreading misinformation about vaccinations – as a result, people who believe this incorrect information can potentially lose their lives. Please take care of it today and inform me about the timing of events. I want you guys to get in touch with Spotify TODAY and [den Vorstand der Streaming-Plattform] let me know that all my music should be removed from the platform”.

The musician is primarily referring to Joe Rogan’s podcast. His show “Joe Rogan Experience” is notorious for spreading false reports about the corona pandemic. Rogan has warned his young fans not to get vaccinated in the past. He also interviewed the controversial virologist Dr. Robert Malone for his show. He recently compared the security measures to combat the corona pandemic with the Holocaust. He also claims that the public is being “hypnotized” by the government during the pandemic.

Young is also supported by academics

Young is not alone in boycotting Rogan. Recently, a group of doctors, scientists, professors and health workers also published one open letter against the podcast. In addition to Spotify, it also urges Neflix to do something against the spread of potentially dangerous misinformation about the corona vaccination.

Also, Young doesn’t want to tour for the duration of the pandemic. Because for the musician, concerts are super spreader events that should be avoided for a while. Nevertheless, he is positive about the end of the pandemic: “We have a lot of smart people with a lot of great ideas in this world. And the more love there is, the more will hear about these ideas. We make it”.
