U21 national player Felix Nmecha had an intensive exchange with his brother Lukas before moving to the German association.
“He told me that I should change, but he didn’t put any pressure on me,” said the Wolfsburg soccer professional in the German U21 quarter in Vaals, the Netherlands. “He played the U21 European Championship for Germany and told me how good it was,” said the 21-year-old about his two-year-old brother. Both play together at VfL Wolfsburg and also live together.
“We have a very close relationship,” Nmecha said of his older brother, who last year became European champion and top scorer with the U21s and now plays in the senior national team.
“We facetime a lot, here almost every day now and talk about how the training was,” reported Felix Nmecha. Born in Hamburg, he has been eligible to play for Germany again since the end of February, after playing for England’s junior national teams like his brother.
“It took me quite a long time to make the decision,” admitted Nmecha. “But I think it was a good decision.” The midfielder could make his debut in Coach Antonio Di Salvo’s U21s on Friday in Aachen against Latvia (6:15 p.m./ProSieben Maxx). Four days later, the young Germans will be away in Israel for a ticket to the 2023 European Championship finals.
