Geiger secures a medal in the ski jumping thriller

So far, the German ski jumping men have not warmed up to the hill in Zhangjiakou. It went much better from the large hill – and the DSV ski jumpers stride out their joy.

Those were expanses to be proud of. The German ski jumping men convinced in Zhangjiakou with the large hill. In the end it was enough for a medal – bronze for Karl Geiger.

Silver went to Ryoyu Kobayashi, gold to the Norwegian Marius Lindvik. In a competition that was gripping until the end, there was a conciliatory end for the DSV-Adler.

“We are perplexed”

Constantin Schmid then said about Geiger on ZDF: “He was always annoyed in training and after the jumps and I’m so happy that he worked hard for his medal.” Paschke added: “The medal wasn’t just for Karl, it was for the whole team.”

National coach Stefan Horngacher said enthusiastically: “I believed in it. It kept getting better and we drew the right conclusions. What Karl did was original Karl Geiger. We are perplexed.”

Kobayashi and Lindvik dueled at the top

Already in the first round the competition jumper after jumper could be carried out without any problems. With good wind conditions, the Japanese Ryoyu Kobayashi again showed top performance, flew to 142.0 meters. Just behind them were the Norwegian Marius Lindvik and the Slovenian Timi Zajc. Kobayashi and Lindvik impressed with their flying techniques.

Karl Geiger showed his strongest performance so far and flew 138.0 meters to sixth place. Then he clenched his fists, very happy. Just like Markus Eisenbichler, who finished eighth with 137.5 meters. Constantin Schmid also qualified eleventh for the second run with a good 134 meters. Just like Pius Paschke, who landed after 131 meters.

Eisenbichler screams joy

Schmid also showed in the second run with another 134 meters why he is in the squad for these games. In the end he secured 14th place. Paschke was 28th. And Markus Eisenbichler also flew 139.5 meters in the second run and then strutted out his joy. He initially took first place and passed Norwegian Halvor Egner Granerud. Karl Geiger flew 138 meters and got a bonus point for the short run-up. He sat in front of Eisenbichler, the two cheered together.

In the end, Geiger secured the bronze medal, Eisenbichler was fifth. Gold went to Lindvik, silver to Kobayashi.
