AS Rome has found a well -known successor for the outgoing coach Claudio Ranieri. Gian Piero Gasperini from Atalanta Bergamo will join the footsteps of the 73-year-old, who will help the owners and sports director Florent Ghisolfi in the future in all sporting matters. Gasperini has looked after La Dea in 439 games since 2016 and is therefore a record coach of the Lombards. The highlight was the triumph in the Europa League 2024 in the final against Bayer Leverkusen. It was the first international title in club history. In Rome, he signed until 2028.

“Gasperini’s career is characterized by creative tactics, hard work and extraordinary player development,” says a press release from the Roma: “Both the owners and Claudio Ranieri believe that Gasperini is the right man for this task.” Because Ranieri also had a say in the search for his successor.

Gasperini had already announced at the beginning of the year that he could leave Bergamo this summer. “There is a start and an end. There will be no extension of this contract. Let’s see whether we can hold out until the end in 2026 or stop after this season.” His working paper expires, but there was an option to extend it by one year. The former genoa and inter-coach had developed Atalanta into one of the best clubs in Italy.

Update 6:40 p.m.: A short time later, Bergamo presented Ivan Juric, who had recently relegated from the Premier League with FC Southampton. Previously, after just twelve games at AS Rome, he had to take his hat off. He receives a two -year contract.
