After his top performance at the World Cup last year, Gabriel Clemens is Germany’s greatest hope for darts. He also started this year with a win – and will face a tough opponent on Monday.
With Florian Hempel, a German has already caused a surprise at Alexandra Palace in London and his ticket for the 3rd round solved. Gabriel Clemens followed suit on Thursday. The “German Giant” won his duel against Lewy Williams from Wales 3-0. Clemens did not show a strong performance, but still dominated his ailing opponent and only lost three legs.
In the 3rd round on Monday the Saarlander will meet Jonny Clayton, who is eighth (!) In the world darts ranking. So Clemens will come into play as an outsider. But this role lies with the 38-year-old, who threw ex-world champion Peter Wright out of the tournament last year.
