Gabriel Clemens dominates and progresses – opponent is certain

After his top performance at the World Cup last year, Gabriel Clemens is Germany’s greatest hope for darts. He also started this year with a win – and will face a tough opponent on Monday.

With Florian Hempel, a German has already caused a surprise at Alexandra Palace in London and his ticket for the 3rd round solved. Gabriel Clemens followed suit on Thursday. The “German Giant” won his duel against Lewy Williams from Wales 3-0. Clemens did not show a strong performance, but still dominated his ailing opponent and only lost three legs.

In the 3rd round on Monday the Saarlander will meet Jonny Clayton, who is eighth (!) In the world darts ranking. So Clemens will come into play as an outsider. But this role lies with the 38-year-old, who threw ex-world champion Peter Wright out of the tournament last year.

Gabriel Clemens (3: 0; 3: 2, 3: 1) Lewy Williams

3rd set – There is victory! Clemens gets his throw-off and wins the match, even if he didn’t deliver a convincing performance today. But you have to win these games too.

3rd set – Williams fights again, throws the 180 and at least brings some mood into a rather calm “Ally Pally”. And this time he also manages the checkout. 2: 1

3rd set – Gaga plays an 84 average, which is anything but good. And yet he dominates the action. Clemens keeps shaking his head, is dissatisfied, even if he hardly gives a leg. 2-0

3rd set – Clemens only needs one set to win. Williams has a throw and plays down well. He doesn’t succeed in the 112 finish, so Clemens can catch up. But the “German Giant” doesn’t really come close. But Williams has complete double trouble here and just can’t get a leg. Clemens takes advantage of that and gets the break. 1-0

2nd set – Williams almost got the break here and with it the set. But he does not succeed in the finish over tops, so that Clemens gets another chance. And the German has a great checkout rate today, even if it is still below what he usually plays. 3: 2

2nd set – Williams is fighting back! The Welshman almost allows another break, but he manages a finish over the bull’s eye and defeats Clemens, who only had “tops” left. 2: 2

2nd set – In the first leg, Clemens has the throw-off. Even if he won the first set confidently, the Saarlander has to improve. But he doesn’t really succeed at the start. Williams faces the break chance with a 52, but fails. Clemens has 143, but cannot finish, so Williams gets the break. 0: 1

1st set – There is the first set for Clemens! The “German Giant” breaks again without playing particularly well. An 88 average is enough for the German. 3-0.

1st set – Sovereign, Gaga! Clemens delivers at his own throw, while Williams has problems with precision. 2-0.

1st set – Williams has a throw-off in the first leg and hits a couple of triples straight away. Clemens can’t really keep up. But the “Prince of Wales” doesn’t manage to finish. “Gaga” catches up with a 68 finish. This is the break! 1-0.
