Fundraising campaign for the deceased Gyan family already yields more than a ton | Football

The action started on New Year’s Eve, a few days after former Feyenoord player Gyan passed away at the age of 43. The Ghanaian born had been terminally ill for some time. To support his family, Feyenoord and FSV De Feijenoorder set up a fundraising campaign. The money is also intended to pay for the funeral.

The defender was under contract with Feyenoord from 1997 to 2007 and also played for Excelsior on a rental basis. Gyan won the UEFA Cup with Feyenoord in 2002 and became a crowd favorite in Rotterdam. Gyan has been known to give away virtually all of his money to people who he thought could use it better. After his football career, he worked for a while in the port of Rotterdam. In 2017 Feyenoord also held a fundraising campaign for Gyan. Then the Ghanaian received a check for 35,500 euros.
