from the African umbrella acacia to climate neutrality in 2025

The German casual label Fynch-Hatton, based in Mönchengladbach, presented its new corporate strategy at the beginning of the year – with a strong focus on sustainability and responsible growth in all areas of the company.

When Fynch-Hatton was founded in 1998, Roger Brandts made a statement for sustainability: the acacia tree in the company logo symbolizes Africa’s intact ecosystem. Today, the sustainable understanding at Fynch-Hatton runs through all areas of the company – a symbiosis of first-class quality, innovation and responsibility. The textile company sees the social and ecological optimization of all processes along the value chain not only as a prerequisite for long-term, stable partnerships and customer loyalty, but also as an innovation driver for long-term corporate success. Fynch-Hatton has been aligning its entire collection planning with the sustainability strategy for some time now and is expanding the use of sustainable and certified materials by at least 10% per collection. “By 2023 we want to be sustainable in all products, but we see responsibility beyond the pure product, because sustainability encompasses everything we do. All aspects of sustainability must be transparent and understandable,” says Mathias Eckert, CEO of Fynch-Hatton.

Strategy and target achievement for 2022

Fynch-Hatton defines its self-commitment to sustainability in seven strategic pillars and backs them up with concrete measures and annual goals. For the year 2022, Fynch-Hatton had set itself ambitious goals for all internal and external actions, some of which have already been achieved. For example, 63.5% of the collection has sustainable attributes, with the target being 60%. In addition, all areas of the company work consistently along the holistic sustainability strategy.

Full traceability and transparency of the supply chain is to be achieved by 2023, supported by digital solutions for supplier monitoring and auditing. Fynch-Hatton’s production facilities are already checked and audited by independent bodies (e.g. by BSCI or SMETA) with regard to social standards and their pollutant management and use.

Sustainability at the company headquarters in Mönchengladbach

In addition to the global challenges, Fynch-Hatton places a strong focus on sustainability at the company headquarters in Mönchengladbach.

“We rely on e-cars or hybrid vehicles in our company fleet and are consistently expanding the use with each new vehicle. Our company car park is equipped with several charging stations, which – like the entire building – are operated with green electricity,” says Mathias Eckert. Sustainable action starts with small things – everyone can and should contribute, according to the credo at Fynch-Hatton. A sophisticated waste separation system and the absence of plastic bottles are just two of the many measures at Alsstraße 166. Glass bottles and treated tap water are available for the drinking water supply for employees.

In addition to establishing a foundation to develop and control its own global, social and ecological projects, Fynch-Hatton wants to be climate-neutral by 2025.

“We are currently thinking about further projects at our location: Our own domestic waterworks should treat rainwater and be used in the sanitary area and for watering our green areas. As part of the climate neutrality of our headquarters, we are planning to equip the roof of our logistics hall with photovoltaics,” says Mathias Eckert.
