From Baresi to Pellissier, over 20 years of shirts collected in Italy

In this article we list the cases of official withdrawal of individual jersey numbers that have occurred, up to now, in our country, in particular since the autumn of 1997, when the Milan officially withdrew the shirt number 6 from Franco Baresi, the first case in Italy. In the cards, divided by numbers, we have reported the names of the individual players, which the various Italian clubs have decided to honor by withdrawing the shirt with the number they wear.

The last shirt to be withdrawn was the number 31 of the Chievo, forever assigned to Sergio Pellissier. Previously Cagliari e Fiorentina they had withdrawn the shirt number 13 from Davide Astori after his sudden disappearance. Previously, however, the Cosenza he had decided to withdraw the shirt number 8 from Donato Bergamini, at least until full light is shed on his death, on which investigations are still open.

It is interesting to note that the greatest number of shirts withdrawn is related to the uniform number 12, which various clubs have withdrawn as a tribute to their fans, more than ever, in this case, a true “twelfth man”.
