After many years from Christian Streich, Julian Schuster has held the coach’s office in Freiburg since this season. He also addresses political things in the cabin, as he reveals.
Christian Streich was cult at SC Freiburg. Not only because of his sporting success with the club, but also because of his social and political statements. The former Breisgauer coach (2011 to 2024) kept using his reach. Now his successor Julian Schuster in the “Current Sports Studio” revealed that these topics are important to him and that he sometimes appeals to them in the cabin.
When exactly? “If I am convinced,” said Schuster. After the US elections, it was like this: “It was important to me to say something about the team.” Republican Donald Trump won the election last year against the democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris. Trump is now in his second term as US president after 2017 to 2021.
Schuster emphasized that it had to feel “authentically” for him so that he was expressed politically. Then he made it clear: “It is also totally important to me. Especially now, of course. go.”
With regard to his team, the coach of SC Freiburg added: “I will do that in the cabin too.” This week, CDU candidate for Chancellor Friedrich Merz polarized with his plans to tighten migration policy. Last Wednesday, the AfD in the Bundestag gave the majority in the Bundestag, whereupon the outrage was great and former Chancellor Angela Merkel also spoke up (more about Merz and Merkel read here).
The former Freiburg coach Streich always commented against the AfD. This week he also said “Symbadian -Decocratic” at the panel discussion: “Democracy is being put to the test, democracy is being attacked.” Streich explained that there is no longer any democracy in Russia and that there is no more oligarchy there: “People have nothing to say. If they say something critical, they end up in prison for many years.” In terms of Germany, he made it clear: “From the one we have to defend our liberal democracy with everything we have.”
