Frank Lammers wants you to cycle to work: ‘Rain is no excuse’

Frank Lammers started an action in Waalre on Thursday morning to get more people on their bicycles. If more people choose to cycle, the Eindhoven region will become more accessible and the air will become cleaner. The ‘Brainport Accessible’ partnership gives 10 euros to the Long Fund for every 500 kilometers cycled in the next 50 days. Those who want to participate must install an app on their phone.

Lammers gave the go-ahead for this cyclingchallenges. He himself jumped on the back of a bicycle at the Huis van Waalre. Although he did not have to cycle, he was in a broom wagon. Armed with megaphone. A ‘cycling’ DJ also set a good example. The bike ride ended at the High Tech Campus, almost three kilometers away.

“They have rain jackets for that! There’s no excuse, we have to do something.”

Lammers: “The accessibility of Brainport is a problem and our air could also be a bit cleaner. By all of us taking the bicycle more often, we ensure better accessibility and we get cleaner air.”

That it often rains and that we are often in a hurry, he waves to the realm of fables. “They have rain jackets for that! There is no excuse. We have to do something: about the environment and about ourselves.”

Project leader Joost Beenker of Brainport Bereikbaar agrees. “We really have to travel differently. 6 out of 10 people live less than fifteen kilometers from their work. In reality, only 20 percent cycle. There are opportunities there.”

“My work is usually far away, but it should be possible.”

Lammers himself says he belongs to ‘the bicycle generation’. But how often is he actually on it? “My work is usually far away, but it should be possible. Although I often have to be on the film set at seven in the morning, then I have to go from Amsterdam to Opglabbeek in Belgium, which will be difficult. But I think we can ‘n all really getting into the car a little too easily. Guys, we have to cycle, come on!”

With the app ‘Sjees’ you can record bicycle rides for the next fifty days.
