Former world champion Gary Anderson moves into the semifinals

The ranks in the London “Ally Pally” are thinning. With Gary Anderson the next favorite is in the semi-finals of the Darts World Cup. In the semifinals, he could meet another ex-world champion.

Former world champion Gary Anderson made it through to the semi-finals of the Darts World Cup in London’s Alexandra Palace. The Scot defeated Englishman Luke Humphries 5-2 in the quarter-finals on New Year’s Day and is in the semifinals at the World Cup for the seventh time in his career.

Anderson, who won the title in 2015 and 2016 and was left behind in the final against Gerwyn Price (Wales) last year, fought his way into the match after a weak first set and ended up with a solid average of 96.32. In the semifinals, Anderson meets ex-world champion Peter Wright (Scotland) or Callan Rydz (England).

Previously, the Englishman James Wade, number four on the seeding list, was the first player to move into the semifinals with a safe 5-0 over countryman Mervyn King.
