The House of Representatives will debate the package of relaxations with the cabinet on Wednesday afternoon. Prime Minister Mark Rutte and health minister Ernst Kuipers announced at a press conference on Tuesday that almost all sectors can open again until 10 p.m., albeit subject to conditions. For example, people must keep a distance of 1.5 meters, even if a corona pass is requested, and no more than one third of the capacity may be used.

Although many sectors were happy with the relaxation, the cultural sector reacted with disappointment. Because theaters have to close their doors again at 10 p.m. and are only allowed to use a third of the full capacity, theater makers say that performances are not profitable.

Corona admission ticket

The discussion about the so-called corona admission ticket (CTB) may also flare up again. The corona pass is an important condition for many of the relaxations announced on Tuesday. Kuipers said at the press conference that the access pass will still be needed for the time being, whether in the form of 1G, 2G or 3G.

Currently, the 3G policy still applies to the pass, which gives people access to, for example, catering or culture if they have been vaccinated, cured or tested. But legislation is in place to allow access only to vaccinated or cured people (2G). Some parties, such as the ChristenUnie or GroenLinks, believe that everyone should be tested (1G), regardless of vaccination status.

Support for the much-discussed 2G policy now appears to be crumbling, following a study by TU Delft. The measure would have very little effect because of the more contagious omicron variant. Several parties opposed the proposal, because it would restrict unvaccinated people too much. It is clear that the cabinet wants to keep the measure at its disposal for the time being, Rutte emphasized in a corona debate last week.
