Because of the spreading avian influenza in Berlin and Brandenburg, the flamingos in the Berlin Zoo now have to go into the stables.
The Chilean and Greater Flamingos are the largest flamingo species living at the zoo.
Since bird flu is currently rampant among wild birds in Berlin, the flamingos are now moving to protected winter quarters. In order not to endanger them and to protect them from pathogens, stalls were compulsory.
By the way, flamingos can become very old. Zoo flamingo Ingo celebrated his 74th birthday in May 2021!
