Flooding after cloudburst in Kortrijk

On Friday morning, the south of the province received the full blast. At nine o’clock a precipitation zone moved over the Lys region. The rain fell in torrents in Kortrijk and Waregem, among others. (Read more below the photo)

Car gets stuck

The rainfall caused problems in the Felix de Bethunelaan. The water did not drain in a tunnel under the railway. That happens often in that place. Yet drivers are caught time and again. Again, a car got stuck in the water. Bystanders came to the driver’s aid and towed the car out of its predicament with a cable.

Due to the many road works in the area, the tunnel under the railway is one of the few passages to drive – along that side of the city – from the north to the south of Kortrijk and vice versa. The entrance to the nearby Sint-Paulusschool is also inaccessible due to the flooding. Parents can pick up their children along the Kongoweg.

There was also flooding on the Expressweg in Waregem.
