Fire on boat in Koog aan de Zaan: man (56) died | Inland

The fire brigade arrived en masse around 8.30 pm to calm the conflagration. It was not immediately apparent that there was a man on board. This was noticed during the extinguishing, reports Noordhollands Dagblad. The victim was removed from the boat and handed over to paramedics. He was still seriously injured at the time, the security region reported.

An air ambulance was called in, but it turned out to be no longer necessary. Soon after the incident, confirmation came that the man had died. Police are looking for witnesses as they investigate the cause of the fire. The Zaanstreek-Waterland Safety Region says that the fire was probably caused by leaking gas bottles.

The boat was moored under the Coenbrug (A8) in the village of Koog aan de Zaan, just above Zaandam.
