The fire in the barn on Schenskensweg broke out around 7 p.m., according to a spokesperson for the fire service. The flames quickly spread through hay storage. Fire brigades from Panningen, Maasbree and Venlo were therefore unable to save the horses.
Three vets eventually put the badly injured horses out of their misery on the spot.
