Figure skater Schott qualified for freestyle finals

Beijing (AP) – The German figure skater Nicole Schott has qualified for the freestyle finals in the women’s competition at the Winter Olympics.

The 25-year-old German champion from Essen received 63.13 points for her short program on Tuesday in Beijing, finished 17th out of 30 participants and was provisionally fourth, so she’s definitely through.

The appearance of the Russian European Champion Kamila Valiewa is eagerly awaited. After a positive doping test at the Russian championships at the end of December, the International Court of Arbitration for Sports granted the 15-year-old the go-ahead for the individual competition. Valiyeva already won gold with the Russian team in Beijing.
