Figure skater Kamila Valiyeva has competed again five weeks after the doping scandal at the Winter Olympics. The 15-year-old came second in the so-called “Channel 1 Cup” on Russian state television on Sunday evening (March 27, 2022).

Valiyeva: “I am very happy

Figure skating “child prodigy” Valiewa was euphorically celebrated by the spectators when she returned to the ice in Saransk, around 600 kilometers south-east of Moscow. Every element of the European champion was applauded frenetically.

After the competition, Valiyeva said on Russian television: “I am very happy to be on the ice. I am very happy that the competition took place. The spectators give you energy when you are tired. Because of them you keep going.” After her freestyle, she was celebrated for minutes with chants, dozens of cuddly toys flew onto the ice.
