The various football clichés can be taken out of the closet at FC Volendam. The number two in the first division can smell promotion to the Eredivisie, but must then get a good result from the upcoming “five finals”. The first final is against De Graafschap tomorrow. Trainer Wim Jonk therefore asks his team to play with a lot of intensity.
FC Volendam has already failed to win six games in a row. Three times they lost and three times Jonk’s team took a point. FC Volendam is currently in the corner where the blows fall and according to Jonk that requires extra attention and effort to get back on top. According to 55-year-old Volendammer, it is not due to lack of experience in important matches.
English lock on the door
Due to Benaissa Benamar’s groin injury, Josh Flint was allowed to start again from the first whistle in last match against Jong PSV. The 21-year-old Flint has made a good impression in the defense of FC Volendam since the winter break. The Englishman, who will most likely be back in the starting line-up tomorrow, has full confidence in a good outcome of the competition.
At FC Volendam, Benaissa Benamar was missing in training. The defender will complete individual training later today. His employability for tomorrow is therefore uncertain. Achraf Douiri, who injured his hamstring against Jong PSV, was also absent. Douiri is not expected to play again this season. Defenders Brian Plat and Derry John Murkin, on the other hand, are fit again and participated throughout the training.
The game between FC Volendam and De Graafschap starts tomorrow at 8 p.m. NH Sport reports live on the game. The broadcast on NH Radio starts at 7 p.m.
