Many supporters thought that the points for the canceled game against Helmond Sport had already been received and Dick Lukkien also thought that the match would be settled in writing. But nothing is less true. FC Emmen – Helmond Sport has to be overtaken. That is the decision of the KNVB.
Helmond Sport was unable to assemble a team for the away game against FC Emmen on Friday 14 January, due to a large number of positive corona tests and injured players. The KNVB did not give permission and so Helmond Sport then risked the penalty.
General manager Philippe van Esch of Helmond Sport announced shortly afterwards that he was waiting to see what would happen. “We currently only have ten players, including goalkeepers. It is impossible for us to play with that flawed selection,” Van Esch said. Eindhovens Dagblad.
No ‘medically uncontrolled outbreak’
According to the rules of the KNVB, clubs must have twelve field players plus one goalkeeper, but then corona must be the cause of the laundry list of absentees. And of the thirteen players that Helmond Sport had to miss, about half was injured and part fell by corona. However, the KNVB did not establish a ‘medically uncontrolled outbreak’ and so Helmond Sport had to ‘just’ play football in Emmen. But that didn’t happen.
Statement KNVB after the game was canceled
The match in the Kitchen Champion Division between FC Emmen and Helmond Sport on Friday 14 January (8 p.m.) is cancelled. Due to a large number of positive corona tests and injured players, the people from Brabant cannot assemble a team. Helmond Sport has therefore indicated that it cannot play this match.
Due to the combination of positively tested and injured players, the club does not comply with the guideline to postpone matches due to corona. The regulations that have been drawn up are followed for this. It will become clear in the coming weeks what happens to the match.
Date of make-up game not yet known
So, in the end, the prosecutor came to the conclusion that the game should be played ‘normally’. When that will happen is not yet known. FC Emmen seems to have indicated several options to play. Helmond Sport will probably receive a sanction (fine).
