FC Bayern: Rummenigge hopes for fans to return

The long-standing CEO of FC Bayern Munich, Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, hopes that fans will return to Bundesliga stadiums as soon as possible.

“Football without spectators is not football. The important element of emotion is missing and emotion can only take place with fans. I therefore wish FC Bayern and German football that spectators can return to the stadiums very quickly,” said Rummenigge (66 ) in the “BR” program “Blickpunkt Sport”.

In the midst of the omicron wave with high numbers of infections, the federal and state governments will discuss further corona measures on Monday. “I don’t think football is privileged,” said Rummenigge, who was Bayern Munich’s CEO from 2002 to 2021. “At the moment I have the impression that football is viewed very critically, not only by the public but also by politicians, because not having a spectator is not okay.”

Rummenigge recommends that the Munich team extend their contract with midfielder Corentin Tolisso (27), who would be free in the summer, and above all with world footballer Robert Lewandowski. “I can only wish FC Bayern that they stay beyond their contract period of a year and a half,” said Rummenigge. Lewandowski’s (33) contract with FC Bayern expires in the summer of 2023.
