FC Bayern loses after a big fight in Istanbul

The FC Bayern Munich basketball players suffered their fourth defeat in a row in the Euroleague. Head coach Pablo Laso’s team lost to Fenerbahce Istanbul 91:98 (39:38, 81:81) after extra time.

The Bundesliga basketball team was on equal terms for a long time against the hottest team in the Euroleague, but didn’t have enough to counter Istanbul in extra time.

Without the injured Serge Ibaka, Munich’s defense was initially attacked at the basket, and a few turnovers quickly led to a double-digit deficit. Thanks to a 10-0 run, Bayern equalized at the half-time break to make it 22:22 and went into the locker room with a 39:38 lead.

Defensively, Bayern couldn’t get Scottie Wilbekin (28 points) under control. The Istanbul guard scored ten points in the first five minutes of the third period. But the guests came back again.

Basketball world champion Andreas Obst (15 points) put his team in the lead with three three-pointers in the final period. After a three-pointer from Wilbekin, Sylvain Francisco (21 points) made it 81:81 with three free throws in the final seconds of the fourth quarter.

Munich didn’t score in the first three minutes of extra time, and with 40 seconds to go, Istanbul was ahead 92:84. Bayern have therefore had to wait for their next away win in the Euroleague since November 23, 2023.
