FC Basel fails dramatically, West Ham celebrates

The German coach Heiko Vogel missed the final with the Swiss first division soccer club FC Basel in the Conference League.

After their 2-1 first-leg win in Tuscany, the Confederates lost 3-1 (1-2, 0-1) after extra time to Italian first-division club Fiorentina.

In the final on June 7 in Prague, Fiorentina will meet English Premier League club West Ham United. The Londoners defeated former Dutch champions AZ Alkmaar after their 2-1 win in the first leg on the island 1-0 (0-0) and are thus in a European Cup final for the first time in 47 years.

After its success in the last premiere season of the third European Cup competition, defending champion AS Roma competed in the higher-ranking Europa League – and made it to the final there.

The Bundesliga representative 1. FC Köln was eliminated in the group stage. The Rhinelanders missed the knockout rounds behind OGC Nice and Partizan Belgrade.
