The game between Portugal and Spain had to be extended. There was a fatal incident in the stands.
A spectator died in Munich during the Nation’s League final between Portugal and Spain. In the first half of the extension, the man fell from the middle rank to the press revenge in the lower tier. Paramedics and police hurried to the place of the event at the level of the center line, a stretcher was brought up and a privacy screen was drawn up.
There was a “medical emergency”, a spokesman for the European Football Union (UEFA) confirmed after the final and reported that despite the best possible efforts by the emergency services, the person “sadly” died at 0.06 a.m. “Our thoughts are among the bereaved,” added the speaker. The man came from the Garmisch-Partenkirchen district, the police said on Monday night.
The Spanish coach Luis de la Fuente said in the press conference after the game that Portugal 5: 3 in a penalty shooter won: “I wanted to express my condolences first because a fan died. That reminds us again what really matters in life.” This is an “extremely sad news,” added Portugal’s coach Roberto Martínez.
How the viewer could fall down about eight meters in the first half of the extension over the balustrade, initially remained unclear.
