In the podcast Join the discussion with AD we discuss an issue every day. Today: reducing sugar is only possible if the packaging clearly states how many lumps it contains.

People underestimate how much sugar they eat in a day, because a form of sugar has been added to all kinds of products without them realizing it. On the packaging, the added sugar is not simply called ‘sugar’, but something ending in ‘-ose’, ‘-syrup’ or ‘-syrup’.

Priscilla van Agteren, A.D-editor in the field of health, is the explainer of the day and states: “There are fifty different names used for sugar and that misleads consumers. But your body makes no difference: sugar is sugar.”

On-duty talker, political commentator A.D Hans van Soest: “When I picked up the jar of sambal this afternoon, I saw on the label that it also contains sugar. In any case, a sugar cube index is much clearer than that terrible Nutri-Score!”
