Failed NK Omnium for track cyclist Yoeri Havik

As a big favorite, Yoeri Havik from Avenhorn appeared at the start of the NK Omnium on Sunday. After three of the four parts, he took the lead together with Vincent Hoppezak. In the last part things went wrong for Havik and he plummeted to fourth place.

“It didn’t go as planned. I won the first two parts quite convincingly. Then it is quite difficult to adjust such a points race to your liking,” said Havik afterwards. “It’s my first victory in the elite. I’ve never taken the red-white-blue champion’s jersey so I’m happy with that,” said winner Vincent Hoppezak afterwards.

“Amy’s family also wants us all to cycle together and that’s what we try to do here”

NH Sport was present at the Sportpaleis in Alkmaar on Sunday and followed Havik all afternoon. The North Hollander said that he would like to drive the Omnium for the Netherlands at the Paris Games in 2024.

He also spoke about Amy Pieters. At the end of December, Havik was at a training camp in Spain with Pieters, among others. There, the rider had a serious fall and has been kept in an artificial coma ever since. “There is nothing to report and that is very frustrating. At the same time you have to keep going and Amy’s family also wants us to just cycle together and that’s what we try to do here,” says Havik.
