EU responds to Russia’s letter on security guarantees

The head of EU diplomacy, Josep Borrell, responded on behalf of the countries of the union to a letter from Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov on security guarantees. He announced this on Thursday on his Twitter.

“Tensions and differences must be resolved through dialogue and diplomacy,” Borrell tweeted.

The EU “calls on Russia to draw down its military contingent near the borders and on the territory Ukraineas well as in Belarus”, writes Borrell.

The Russian government, including the Russian president, the Russian Foreign Ministry and other government officials have repeatedly explained that Russia moves troops within its territory and at its own discretion. According to the press secretary of the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Peskov, the movement of military equipment within our state should not worry anyone.
