EM | Goal scorer Lea Schüller back on the pitch with DFB women

Goalscorer Lea Schüller returned to the training ground for the first time after her positive corona test at the European Football Championship.

The 24-year-old from FC Bayern Munich only did the warm-up training with her colleagues in Brentford, after which there were individual practice sessions. Two days before the quarterfinals against Austria, substitute goalkeeper Almuth Schult was absent.

“Lea still has her final examinations today, but is on the right track. We’ll wait for the results,” said assistant trainer Britta Carlson about Schüller and explained to Schult: “Almuth wasn’t doing so well this morning. It’s out today, but it’s nothing bad now. All tests are negative.”

Schüller was isolated from the team at the team hotel for a week and tested negative for the first time on Monday. The 40-time national player (26 goals) and Bundesliga top scorer last season (16 goals) missed both the 2-0 win against Spain and the 3-0 win against Finland in the preliminary round. It is currently unclear whether she will be back in the DFB squad against Austria on Thursday (9 p.m. CEST/ARD and DAZN).

The recently injured Bayern midfielders Lina Magull and Sydney Lohmann have resumed team training. Magull could return to the starting XI, while Lohmann “is an important option for us,” said Carlson. According to their statements, the two Wolfsburg players Lena Oberdorf and Felicitas Rauch, who were suspended against Finland, will return to the starting XI.
