Elizabeth wants Camilla to be queen when Charles takes the throne | royals

„It is my sincere wish that, when the time comes, Camilla will be known as Queen Consort,” said Elizabeth. Queen Consort (queen consort) refers to the wife of a reigning king.

A Clarence House spokesperson said Charles and Camilla were “touched and honored” by Elizabeth’s words.

As usual, Camilla would automatically become queen if Charles became king. Because the palace feared that this might not go down well with the population, it was suggested that Camilla princess Consort (princess consort) would be called. That has been the official position since Prince Charles and Camilla tied the knot in 2005.

Charles was previously married to Princess Diana. The two divorced in 1996, a year before Diana was killed in a car accident in Paris.
