Toyota’s ideas about the future of mobility take shape at the Japan Mobility Show
After the renewal of the thermal version, Toyota Land Cruiser look to the future with the If Concept, a zero-emission prototype expected at the Japan Mobility Show (26 October-5 November). Compared to the version that has just arrived in Europe, it stands out in its less backward-looking look to anticipate what we will see in the electric era of the iconic off-road vehicle. A future also presided over by Epu Concept, under the spotlight of the Tokyo Motor Show to anticipate the idea of an electric pick-up over 5 meters long with a five-seater cab. Cars can also be driven via the “Neo Steer” previewed in Japan. This is an evolution of the yoke-shaped steering already seen on the bZ4X and Lexus Rz, which allows you to do without the accelerator and brake pedals with similar controls mounted on the steering wheel itself.

Toyota has not indicated technical data on the engine and performance of the electric Land Cruiser, which however will be able to count on “high torque” to transport up to 7 people. It will likely have all-wheel drive generated by two electric motors. The dimensions of the Land Cruiser Se indicate 5,150 mm in length, 1,990 mm wide and 1,705 mm high, with a wheelbase of 3,050 mm. Compared to the Land Cruiser expected soon in dealerships, the frame with side members has been abandoned in favor of a load-bearing body, for more slender proportions. The limited ground clearance and the layout of the bumpers suggest a nature aimed more at asphalt than off-road. From the Tokyo Motor Show where it debuted, Epu Concept looks at the US market for mid-range electric pick-ups. 5.06 meters long, has a five-seater cockpit and a rear compartment with a folding hatch for large loads. Again, no technical data, although Toyota states that the pick-up will also be drivable by 16-year-old new drivers in countries that allow it.
