Elderly woman seriously injured in fire in nursing home in Oirschot

An elderly woman was seriously injured on Thursday evening in a fire in a care home on St. Jorisstraat in Oirschot. She was taken to hospital with burns, our 112 correspondent reports.

The fire started around 7 a.m. in the resident’s room. The woman’s clothing also caught fire. “The small fire was extinguished and the woman was put in a shower,” says the correspondent.

“Staff of the care home received her and provided first aid. After that, the care was taken over by ambulance personnel,” confirms the security region.

The victim was taken to the Elisabeth-TweeSteden Hospital (ETZ) in Tilburg under the supervision of a trauma doctor.

The cause of the fire is unknown. According to the security region, there is minor smoke and fire damage in the room. Despite the fire, the nursing home did not have to be evacuated.
