An elderly woman in Landhorst is tens of thousands of euros poorer due to fraud. She was called by ‘bank employees’ and transferred more than 70,000 euros. The police reported this on Monday.

Initially, agents were called in for a possible robbery in which a lot of money was allegedly stolen. But once arrived at the victim, the fork turned out to be slightly different in the handle.

Taken off the bill in parts
The elderly woman told police she had been called by her bank to transfer several amounts. She cooperated and the amounts were withdrawn from her account in parts. There were only a few minutes between the transfers, the police said. In total, the woman lost more than 70,000 euros.

The digital detective will investigate the case further.

Brabant Office
Many people in Brabant are currently victims of spoofing, a form of fraud in which criminals pretend to be bank employees. They often even mimic the bank’s phone number. In Bureau Brabant on Monday, just like a week earlier, attention was paid to the problems.

According to police spokesman Willem van Hooijdonk, spoofing is currently a major problem. “The elderly in particular are called,” he says.
