Edwin van der Sar will remain in intensive care for the time being after a cerebral haemorrhage

Edwin van der Sar will remain in intensive care for the time being, Ajax has announced. The former general manager of Ajax suffered a cerebral hemorrhage while on vacation. According to the club, his situation is stable, but worrying.

Van der Sar was on holiday in Croatia when he suffered a cerebral hemorrhage. He was taken to a hospital by helicopter and has been in intensive care since yesterday. The family of the former goalkeeper and general manager of the team from Amsterdam says they are deeply touched by the many messages of support. Support for Van der Sar came from all over the football world.

At the end of May, Van der Sar announced that he was resigning his duties at the club after eleven years on the board. He indicated a need to ‘take a step back, relax and do other things’. It is not yet clear who will be his replacement. Ajax expects to be able to announce the new composition of the management soon after August 1. The club would prefer someone with an Ajax background in the management again.
