Van der Sar was on holiday in Croatia when he suffered a cerebral hemorrhage. He was taken to a hospital by helicopter and has been in intensive care since yesterday. The family of the former goalkeeper and general manager of the team from Amsterdam says they are deeply touched by the many messages of support. At the end of May, Van der Sar announced that he was resigning his duties at the club after eleven years on the board. He indicated a need to ‘take a step back, relax and do other things’. It is not yet clear who will be his replacement. Ajax expects to be able to announce the new composition of the management soon after August 1.
